REFLECTION:

while I'm doing this frame, I need to have a patience to put the designs, and also, I need to have a creativity, so that I can design my frame not too ugly.

DSWD chief flies to Eastern Visayas to asses flash flood damage

02/21/2008 | 07:46 AM

Social Welfare secretary Esperanza Cabral took a C-130 cargo plane flight to Eastern Visayas early Thursday to personally assess the damage caused by the flash floods in Leyte.

Cabral cited reports reaching her indicating the flash floods have affected as many as 60,000 families in the Eastern Visayas region alone.

"Yan ang report sa akin kaya pupunta ako para mag-assess ng situation (That's the report that reached me so I have to go there to assess the situation)," she said in an interview on dzRH radio.

She said most of the 60,000 families affected so far are from Eastern Samar province.

On Wednesday night, the National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC) said flash floods caused by heavy rains have so far affected 123,651 persons and caused P305.447 million in damages.

In its 5 p.m. report, the NDCC said the floods and landslides in Oriental Mindoro, Sorsogon, Catanduanes, Capiz, Samar provinces, Biliran and Leyte affected 26,346 families or 123,651 persons in 257 villages.

Of those affected, only 75 families or 390 persons were brought to evacuation centers while the others stayed with friends or relatives.

The NDCC identified seven of the eight fatalities as Loreta Tunacao of Borongan City; Roberto Operario, 25, of MacArthur in Eastern Samar; Edito Bola, 18, of Dolores town; Artemio Baltar, 67; Grace Ann Acude, 13; Eddie Pineda of Dulag, Leyte; and Valentina Fuentes, 70, of Palo,
Leyte.

Injured were Eddie Baroso of Borongan; and Rolando Colandog, 47, of MacArthur town.

Still missing were Ricky Ranillo, 27, of Dolores, Eastern Samar; Anthony Cabukuhan, 12; and Ricardo Loyola, 56, of Guiuan, Eastern Samar.

The damage to property amounted to P305.447 million, including P53.245 million in agriculture and P252.2 million in infrastructure, in Eastern Visayas alone.

The 12-meter stretch of the Macabut Bridge Approach B along Borongan-Guian, Eastern Samar, was washed out and remained impassable as of posting time.

Meanwhile, Bombo Radyo reported Wednesday night that floodwaters swamped several areas in Iloilo due to rains, including the town of San Enrique, where hectares of crops were damaged.

In Passi City, Iloilo, Mayor Elyzer Chavez said floodwaters inundated several villages. Crops in Dueñas were also damaged.

In Zarraga, Iloilo, six villages were submerged in floodwaters after the Jalaur River overflowed and also affected nearby Dumangas, Leganes, and Barotac Viejo towns.

Some 400 families were affected, while electricity was interrupted as posts collapsed as a result of the heavy downpour. - GMANews.TV

I sympathize all the victims of the flash flood in Eastern Visayas. The government should provide a budget that will help the victims and to fix all the damages in that area. The authorities should gather some help inside and outside the country to provide some goods like clothing and foods for the victims. Some professionals should volunteer to assess a specific area that might cause flash flood in all areas in this country. Authorities should have a program to minimize the victims of flash flood just before the flood hits the area.

A THOUSAND OF COLORED CRANES FOR YOU
(by: Agcel E. Estive)

With a renewed pledge for love,
I told a scarlet crane;
with a pure and noble heart,
I told a bright red crane,
burning with emotion.

With a inspiration for my cinderella,
I told a soft pink crane;
and grazing with hope and dreams to the future,
I told a yellow crane.

With a tervant prayer for you,my cinderella,
I told a white crane;
And I told a indigo crane
to pull my sunken heart in a deep blue sea.

I told the green crane
to watch over you;
And dreaming someday to be my cinderella,
I told a rainbow-colored crane.

FAMILY TREE
(by: Agcel E. Estive in participation of Cryztal Bendejo)

It is selfish to think of myself just me
More so, when others knows this and see
I must take time to say hello to my brothers and also my sister father and mother
Oh, and also my nephews and nieces as well

but with special love cause a family can tell there are times in life I forget them,
you see while getting on with life selfish silly old me
Yet i often think of our younger ways when we were all kids those were happier days

Maybe i'm not selfish
Recalling the past Moving on, going alone Are just part of life's cast
If i send them this line I am sure they will know I love them,
and miss them And hope this will show
Hey how are you I love care and miss you all!!!

ME, AS A GIFT
(by: Agcel E. Estive)

I, Agcel, a gift from God
I come wrapped so differently
sometimes loosely,sometimes so tightly.
What a wonderful gift from God!

I, Agcel, a gift for our land,
a child grown old in tears
an old man laughing through perpetual infancy
a bastard child of a thousand dreams,
masquerading and dancing.
the youth of our land.

I, Agcel, a gift for others
I am ready to serve my countrymen
I will serve the nation of our
fathers forever and lights the candles in the wind.
